Accolades
Jana Heisler, Ph.D. candidate in the Graduate Degree Program in Ecology, has been awarded a three-year fellowship from the EPA STAR program, among the most competitive fellowship awards in the country. Congratulations to Jana and her advisor Professor Alan Knapp
Thesis Defenses
Roger Pierce defended his M.Sc. Thesis on May 1, titled "Ectoprasites in a Colorado Populations of Urban Dwelling Big Brown Bats (Eptesicus fuscus)". Congratulations to him and to his advisor, Professor Bruce Wunder
Natalie Wasmundt, a MS in Zoology candidate, defended her thesis, "Effects of elevated ecdysteroid on myostatin expression in land crab skeletal muscle," on May 26. Congratulations to her and to her advisor Professor Don Mykles.
On the Road
Assistant Professor Debbie Garrity presented a seminar on May 10th at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center, entitled "New roles for calcium channel genes in zebrafish".
Professor Dan Bush visited Texas A&M University in College Station TX during May 20 - 24 to chair a review of the graduate program in Molecular and Environmental Plant Sciences.
Graduate student Chris Cohu and Associate Professor Rien Pilon attended the 2nd Pan American Plant Membrane Biology Workshop, held May 17-20, on South Padre Island, Texas. Chris presented a poster, Rien gave a talk.
Associate Professors Elizabeth Pilon-Smits and Marinus Pilon will be attending the 13th International Symposium on Iron Nutrition in Plants, which will be held July 3rd-7th 2006, in Montpellier, France.
