Accolades
Postdoc Song-Bin Chang in Steve Stack's lab has left for a position as an assistant professor in the Department of Agronomy at the National Taiwan University.
Former PhD student Julian Olden completed his postdoc at the University of Wisconsin and has just started a tenure-track position in the Department of Aquatic and Fishery Sciences at the University of Washington. Congratulations Julian!
Dr. Lillian Mayberry, a graduate alum of the department, received the Distinguished Service Award from the American Society of Parasitologists at their annual meeting in Glasgow, Scotland in early August.
Welcome
Associate Professor LeRoy Poff welcomes postdoc Julie Zimmerman to his lab. Julie completed her PhD at the University of Minnesota and has worked for a year with The Nature Conservancy in Massachusetts prior to coming to CSU.
The Pilon-Smits labs welcomes Associate Professor Masanori Tamaoki from Ibaraki, Japan, who will work in the lab for one year while on sabbatical leave.
On the Road
Assistant Professor Colleen Webb was an invited participant at an NSF Research Coordination Network Meeting on Invasive Species held here at CSU August 16-17.
Mark Simmons traveled to Oaxaca, Mexico from August 13-21 to attend the Hennig XXV meeting where he made two presentations and presided over a symposium on character sampling for phylogenetic inference.
Dhruba Naug presented a seminar on his research in the Department of Bioagricultural Sciences and Pest Management .
Prof. Greg Florant will be participating in the American Physiological Society's Professional Skills Training Advisory Board Meeting in Warrenton, VA from September 10 to the 12th.
New Publications from Biology
A paper by Special Assistant Professor Gul Shad Ali and Professor A.S.N. Reddy is published in Journal of Cell Science. This work is featured on the cover of September 1 issue of this journal.
Associate Professor LeRoy Poff is co-author on a paper published in the latest issue of Ecological Applications : "The challenge of providing environmental flow rules to sustain river ecosystems."
A new publication is coming out in the Sept issue of Plant Physiology, by postdoc John Freeman, former graduate student Lihong Zhang, assoc prof Lianne Pilon-Smits, and coworkers in Berkeley and the UK: Freeman JL, Zhang LH, Marcus MA, Fakra S, McGrath SP, Pilon-Smits EAH (2006) Spatial imaging, speciation and quantification of selenium in the hyperaccumulator plants Astragalus bisulcatus and Stanleya pinnata.
