• Postdoctoral fellow Astrid Wittmann from the Alfred Wegener Institute, Germany, joined the laboratory of Prof. Don Mykles to study the effects of temperature and pH on molt regulation in the green shore crab. She is supported by a Marie Curie Fellowship from the European Union. She will be splitting her time between CSU and the UC Davis Bodega Marine Lab.
• Eva has been awarded a Doctoral Dissertation Improvement Grant from the National Science Foundation for her work on neurobiology and sensory perception. Please give Eva (and her major advisor Kim Hoke) a big high five!
• Prof. Don Mykles was awarded a 4-year $982K grant from the National Science Foundation to study the transcriptome and proteome of the crustacean molting gland. It involves laboratories at University of Oklahoma, Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, and University of California-Davis Bodega Marine Lab. The goal is to understand the transcriptional and post-transcriptional mechanisms regulating molting and growth of decapod crustaceans.
• Professor Gregory Florant is a Distinguished Visiting Professor at Georgia State University for the spring semester. He is doing
research in the Departments of Biology and Neuroscience with Dr. Tim Bartness. He is also giving lectures in the Neuroscience
Program. Dr. Florant has also given lectures at Auburn University and the University of North Carolina, Charlotte.
• Drs. Gregory Florant and Jessica Healy (his former student) have been informed that their article entitled:
"The regulation of food intake in mammalian hibernators: a review" published in the Journal of Comparative Physiology
in May 2012 was one of the 10 most frequently downloaded papers in 2012 published by this journal.
