The Department of Biology is excited to welcome Dr. Ruth Hufbauer, Professor of Agricultural Biology at Colorado State University, for an upcoming BIO Seminar.

Dr. Hufbauer’s seminar, “The Evolutionary Ecology of Populations in Changing Environments: Tales of a Model System and a Range Expansion,” investigates how populations respond and adapt as environments change, drawing on both model systems and range expansion research.

Abstract
An important challenge in evolutionary ecology is to better understand how fundamental characteristics of populations encountering changing environments influence population persistence and adaptation. In this talk, I will tell two stories that address different aspects of this challenge. First, I’ll present experimental work with a model system, in which we evaluated how population density influences extinction risk and adaptation to a challenging environment. Then, I’ll present work from a biological control system, in which we explore the role of adaptive changes, including altered plasticity, in range expansion into previously uninhabitable regions.

Promotional CSU Biology seminar flyer with a professional academic layout, featuring a speaker portrait, host information, and clear event details to present the talk as a formal research event. The overall design uses strong branding and a polished visual hierarchy to support a university audience and emphasize the seminar’s scholarly focus.
