Biology Professors Alan Knapp and Melinda Smith were recently awarded a four-year $498,500 grant to support their research project entitled “Foundational research for managing forage production in semi-arid grasslands: preparing for a future with increased climate variability”.  Drs. Knapp and Smith will partner with Dr. David Hoover of the USDA Agricultural Research Service to assess how ongoing changes in rainfall patterns, particularly increases in extremely large rainfall events or deluges, will affect the productivity of eastern Colorado grasslands.
