You’re invited!

Join the Department of Biology in welcoming guest speaker, Cori Cahoon, Assistant Professor with CSU’s Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, as Dr. Cahoon presents their latest research in a seminar titled, “Some Do Not Like It Hot: Chromosome Structure Regulation in Heat Induced Sperm Infertility”.

Event Details
Date: Tuesday, February 17th, 2026
Time: 4:00PM-5:00PM
Location: Biology 136

This seminar will explore the sexual dimorphisms within chromosome structures that are critical for fertility and examine why these sex-specific differences render sperm particularly sensitive to heat stress. Understanding these mechanisms provides essential insights into reproductive health, adaptation, and the broader ecological consequences of environmental change.

Don’t miss this opportunity to learn about the molecular basis of fertility under environmental stress and connect with cutting-edge research that bridges molecular biology, ecology, and evolutionary science.

Host: Dan Sloan, Assistant Professor, CSU’s Department of Biology

Abstract
The processes ensuring the genome stability of developing eggs and sperm are impacted by environmental stressors differently in each sex. Specifically, temperature fluctuations are detrimental to only sperm development and linked to male infertility in multiple organisms from plants to humans. We investigate the sexual dimorphisms within chromosome structures critical for fertility to understand how sex-specific differences in these structures render sperm temperature sensitive.

Promotional flyer for a biology seminar titled “Some Do Not Like It Hot: Chromosome Structure Regulation in Heat-Induced Sperm Infertility.” The flyer includes the seminar date, Tuesday, February 17, 2026, from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Biology 136. It lists the speaker as Cori Cahoon, Assistant Professor in the CSU Department of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology, and the host as Dan Sloan, Associate Professor. The design features green and yellow accents, the CSU Biology logo, and a QR code for the abstract link.
