The Department of Biology is pleased to announce our very own Dr. Alan K. Knapp, Professor of Biology, as our first guest speaker of the Spring 2026 Seminar season. Join us for what is sure to be a stimulating discussion, titled “Colorado’s Transition to Solar Energy: An Ecological Perspective”.

Dr. Knapp, Senior Ecologist in the Graduate Degree Program in Ecology at Colorado State University, will share findings on how solar energy development intersects with ecological processes, shedding light on the opportunities and challenges for biodiversity and land management in a rapidly changing energy landscape.

If you have driven across Colorado, you probably have seen large solar arrays. But have you ever wondered what is going on with the plants and ecosystems underneath? Come and hear what we have learned about “photovoltaic grasslands” in Colorado.
